To some degree, is completely natural for every dog to have one form of aggression or another. Since most dogs are now domesticated, they should have a certain level of calmness in them. Territorial aggression is the most common form of aggression that most dogs have a problem with. This simply means a dog will go bonkers when unknown people approach their territory. What Causes Territorial Aggressiveness? It is a dog's natural instinct to want to defend his territory, and to claim his territory also. Here are some things that can cause your dog's aggression to escalate. When a delivery person such as a mailman, drops something off at your home and then leaves, your dog thinks his aggression actually made this stranger leave, so this creates more aggression from your dog. When you are riding in a car with your dog, a dog that has intense territorial aggression barks continuously at everyone he sees outside the window. This is his way of telling them to stay away from his territory. People avoid the car, so your dog thinks he is the winner, so he continues to bark. When your dog is acting up and barking at the door , and you yell at him to try and quiet him. You are actually creating even more aggression because your dog thinks you are giving him support. Whenever your dog is locked up or isolated because you have guests or strangers over, it will cause him to be very aggressive. Your dog will smell the strangers in your home, and since he is put away, he can't do anything about it. This makes him become increasingly more aggressive and more stressed out too. |
