Testimonials

 Hi Jerry-
I just wanted to let you know how AWESOME Vegas is doing! She has been
home for 2 months now and things are going great! The weather has put
a damper on getting her outside as much as I would like but, her and
Dakota are pals. She has her moments that she tries to push him around
but, we are all over it now. She sits/stays/comes for everything now.
I had her tail amputated, she has a 4" nub but, it has healed
excellent AND... She no longer chases her tail or spins obsessively!
WOO HOO!

I can't possibly thank you enough for your help and guidance. Letting
her stay with you was the best decision I have made! We spent $1,000's
over the past two years at the vet and the University of Penn on
tests, blood work and medication etc. and all she needed was to be
drug-free and have a little discipline in her life!

Thank you (and Beth) again-
Brandi and Dave Rode

Ps. We can't wait until spring so we can bring Vegas to play with the
other dogs!

Re: Puppy She's doing really well. Thank god the first 2 nights are over because she definitely made it known that being in her crate wasn't her most favorite place. She's doing amazing with the kids, and she's only had 3 accidents in the house so far. She really takes to Joe, but now that he's back to work I have a feeling she's gonna be my sidekick now. She loves the snow and gets pissed off when she tries to bite it and it melts in her mouth. Lol. I haven't posted any pictures yet because we were keeping her secret so no family would come bombard our home wanting to see her so she could get used to us first, but half of them know now so I can finally post some tomorrow! She has a big puppy bed and the kids like getting in it with her, so I'll post some pictures of that! Obedience wise, she's pretty receptive to what we say. I've been doing the loud ow and she stops biting right away and nuzzles me to make sure I'm ok. She likes chewing on the area rug so we just say no and give her one of her chew toys. I can tell already how much easier she is going to be to train then past dogs!

Thanks again Jerry, She's exactly what we were looking for

He is doing well. He's much calmer and controlled. He has had some tiffs with me where he's jumped up once and started to play bite me. Unfortunealy, I didn't have the shock coller on at that time so I layed him down on the ground on his side and layed with my knee on him until he settled down and realized I was in control. That's only happened once. Other than that he's been great. I really appreciate the work you put into him and the loss of skin too :) Eli (my boyfriend) and I continue to work with him daily on the commands/training tips you gave me. I'm walking him every morning and evening. So he's getting lots of exercise. Yesterday he went swimming in the susquehanna too. Today he's at Eli's parents house playing with his best friend Ozzi, an American Bulldog. Thanks again and I will be in touch for future trainings and/or boarding.

i Jamie & Dawn -

We picked up Duncan today at Jerry's house.  We can tell he got very
attached to Jerry in the time he has been with him, but we are
pleased at how well he is doing his first day with us.  I think he
may be missing Jerry a bit, but we are giving him lots of love and
attention.  The ride home was a bit challenging.  We put Duncan in
the back seat of my car for the ride home and after traveling a few
miles he decided he wanted to be up front with us.  He climbed up
onto my lap and I thought he was going to lay down, but he kept
getting up.......so we decided to pull over, get him back into the
back seat and Dan crawled in the back seat with him.  He finally laid
down after awhile and was trying to fall asleep, but wasn't sure if
he wanted to.  I think he was wondering where we were taking him.

When we got home, we left him out back to check out our yard.  The
neighbor who lives one house away had her 3 dogs outside and they
were running up and down the fenced yard barking and Duncan was
running back and forth in our yard barking at them.  It was pretty
hot, he ran up and down a few times and then decided he barked enough
and went and laid under our tree in the shade.  He seems to enjoy
laying on our tile floor in the kitchen and hallway, and seems to
like laying on the mat in front of our front door.  He hasn't tried
to climb up on our furniture yet, but does seem to like the his
bolster bed on our living room floor.

We set up a crate in our living room and will put Duncan in there
while we are away for the first week or so since he is in a new
environment.  We asked Jerry about this, and he felt that he should
do fine without being in the crate after a week or two.

He ate his Wellness Adult Breed dog food with no problem around 5:30
pm and we took him for a walk around 7:15 on the walking trail near
our house and did well on his walk.  He seems tired out now and after
a long day I'm sure he'll sleep well.

Here are a few photos of Duncan.  I didn't get any outside shots yet,
but I'm sure I will have plenty in the next few days.

Thanks Jerry for doing a great job training Duncan, we will give you
a call after you get back from vacation and will bring Duncan to your
training class in July.  Have a good time on your trip.

Thanks Dawn & Jamie for all your help with the adoption.  I'll be
sure to keep you updated on Duncan's progress, but from what I can
tell after 1 day being here.......he's going to be an AWESOME dog!
So Dawn - no need to worry any longer. :)

Hi, Jerry,

I wanted to thank you for helping our family with Ella, our Newf.  She will be 6 months old tomorrow and what a learing and growing experience this has been.  I was thinking of you today as the kids were doing their homework and Ella was peacefully in the same room chewing on one of her chewies patiently waiting for hw to be done because then the playtime begins.  I was so thankful thinking how far we've all come and Greg and I know you played a huge role in it.  Because of your help through the grace of God, our lives are richer and even better.  Ella is such a blessing to us and you have been to.  Thank you.

Mealtimes are still somewhat challenging and lately she has been lunging at cars when walking--any suggestions?, but everyday living is so much better.  She is a joy to have and we love her.

Thanks again for all of help you have given our family.  God has certainly blessed you with an incredible gift.

Sincerely,

Ali Lesher from Mechanicsburg

Hi Jerry,   I appreciate contacting me so quickly. I will call you tomorrow or Monday to set up a time for a evaluation for Baron. I had just gotten done reading a letter from my sister in law from Buffalo telling me her Step Dad and his Wife had a dog that they were having problems with and the "Dog Whisperer" from Mt. Wolf took him for a month and he's a new dog and easily managed. I was surprised then to see I had a e-mail from you my mail is backed up on here and I'm trying to catch up before I set up another computer. We may have another snow on Monday and everything will be delayed once again. My SUV is parked down in Brogue at a friends house who knows when I can bring it back with the parking issue on Philadelphia St.

Hi Jerry,

Just a small note to tell you how Emmy is doing.  She is the Black Tri Aussie that you have been working with in New Cumberland.

She just got spayed a week ago.  So she was a little quite the last few days.. however, she is more and more

herself each day.  She is doing very well.  As far as what you trained us to do with her, she has it going on.  She sits, stays, comes

and even "high fives" us at times.. She is awesome.   You made a comment that she is about an 8 out of 10 in terms of her training thus far with

what you taught us, but I believe now she is a 9 out of 10.. improving each time we work with her.

She is a much better dog when she is fully exercised.. your absolutely right below.  My Aussie is living proof.

The only other problem I would like to work on with her is barking at people when we go out for long walks,, I wouldn't mind, but she uses her

out of control "defensive" bark and it scares people.. haha.. imagine that?  I tell her No and pull up on her, but she keeps barking out of control

at them..

Do you think Doggie Day Care twice a week may help with this??

Thank you for all that you have done for her thus far.

Hi, Mr. Mace.

I looked up the articles for socializing the dogs and cats and none came up.  Are they in the archives or am I looking in the wrong place?  Thanks for coming last night and educating us all.  This morning was the most peaceful morning for us all.  The kids really were listening last night along with all of their questions.  They love to learn which is a wonderful thing and Greg and I are so grateful for your gift of teaching.  Thank you for being a patient and excellent teacher.  We are looking forward to our journey with Ella and our family of nine growing together as a "pack".  Have a great weekend.

Thanks again.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jerry:  Just a little note letting you know how Sophie is doing.

We go to the trail at the old Hawke Lake GC and I take her off the leash for the entire almost two hours we are there.  I put the remote training collar on just to be safe, but have never had to use it.  She responds to a dog whistle I bought plus voice commands to "come."  Since we have been doing this, she is a different dog and has become a real companion for me.

Thanks again for all the great training tips, both for her and for me!!  If we ever need a "tune-up"  I'll be I touch.

Hi Jerry - The pups are doing great! We have been so surprised with how much their behavior has improved in these last few months. Thanks to you they are now sitting, staying, and laying down on command. They heel beautifully when we take walks and are even getting so good at the "come" part we have been leaving them off the leash in some areas. Astro still has issues with meeting new people but has improved greatly since we have started having new people introduce themselves to him with a treat! That has worked really well! They were just at the vet and that went well also :0) They actually enjoy it there. Your advice and common sense with the pups has been invaluable to Seth and I. We would be happy to write a testimonial letter. Let me know what all I need to include?! Thanks Jerry.

Jerry, you are absolutely killing me with your newsletters!  Every time you come up with a dog that needs a home, I start this crusade to save these animals.  First I think I'll take it and then realize I really can't! Then I'm on to everyone else I can think of.  I'm so glad you found a home for T-Bone.  Now I have these other two on my mind. I can't stand it.  It is so wonderful of you to help these animals.  God bless you.  You do such good work.  I pray always for you that because of the effort you have put into these animals, God will open up doors for you and find them a good home.  Your newsletter I read today(animal cruelty) breaks my heart.  I start reading these things and turn them off because It just kills me. And I ALWAYS end up going back and finishing it! If you keep it up I'm going to ask to be taken off your email list!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Just kidding. Anyway, you are doing a wonderful thing. Take Care and say hello to Beth and Sydney.  Kim Kohl       P.S. Maddie is doing great. Very BOSSY though! She never leaves my side. We are good PALS!!!!!!!!

Dear Jerry:

Thank you so much for everything you have done for our family. We cannot begin to thank you enough for the help you have given our family. Betty and Elkie are such obedient loving members of the family. We are constantly hearing from different people how well behaved our dogs are. It is a joy to include them in everything our family does. I hope our story is helpful .

September 2008 we lost our beloved pet Cassie. Cassie was a 12 year old husky Doberman mix. Her death was caused by complications from a 5 year battle with diabetes. Several months later the family decided the best way to honor our lost friend's memory was to rescue another dog. As a result, we began surfing petfinder.com. Several days later, we found an ad for a 2 year old yellow lab named Elkie that was extremely shy and in need of a good home. We were very excited about meeting her.

Upon meeting Elkie, we discovered that she was 4 ½ years old and spent her entire life in a puppy mill as a breeder dog. She had no voice because the mill owner brutally scarred her throat with a hot pipe never allowing her to bark again. She was extremely shy because all of her experience with humans had been abusive. Elkie shook uncontrollably when she saw us. When approached, Elkie would freeze, her pupils would dilate, and her expression became blank. It was as if she were leaving her body preparing herself to endure abuse. We immediately fell in love with Elkie. We were determined to give Elkie the love she needed to have the happy life she deserved.

Two days after bringing Elkie home she slipped out of her collar and took off for a run. She was so afraid of all human contact it took my husband and I 2 hours to catch her. The only reason I was finally able to catch her is that she was exhausted after 2 hours of all out running (luckily I was in training for a marathon). Once caught I carried Elkie a ½ mile home because she was frozen with fear at my touch.

Three weeks after bringing Elkie home she was still using the house as a toilet, and avoiding human contact whenever possible. My husband saw an ad in the community courier for Jerry Mace. We gave him a call because we just did not know what else to try. Jerry visited our home every week for about 3 months. Jerry taught us about dog and pack behavior. We learned how to interact with Elkie in a nonthreatening manner which helped us gain her trust. Obedience training gave Elkie much needed self confidence.

After consulting with Jerry, we adopted a 3 year old black lab named Betty whose owner had passed away. Jerry helped us train Betty and Elkie together. It is now 8 months after adopting Elkie. Both Elkie and Betty are happy well adjusted dogs. Betty is skilled at obeying the following commands: sit, stay, heel, and come. She will obey both verbal commands as well as hand signals. Elkie obeys the following commands: sit, stay, and come. Elkie no longer uses the house as her toilet. Both dogs stay in the yard with us without a leash.

Without the help of Jerry Mace we would still be struggling with toilet training and behavior problems. Elkie is now a rehabilitated, confident dog enjoying her life. She smiles all the time and now craves the love and attention that was so scary just months ago. Because of the confidence and knowledge Jerry has shared we are now fostering another puppy mill survivor. Thank you Jerry for our happy family!

Sincerely,

Pamela, Scott, and Zachary R.

Jerry came to our house for 4 hour long training sessions with both of our dogs.  We have a German Shephard mix named Katie, and a Cocker Spaniel named Chloe.  Katie was always pretty well behaved, but timid around men, and barks a lot.  Chloe was and is very hyper.  We were having a lot of problems with her "bolting", soiling couches and beds, getting into trash cans, etc.  Both dogs are very loving and attached to us, but for our sanity and theirs, we were hoping to eliminate some bad behaviors.

After 4 weeks of training over the winter season, the dogs are doing much better.  We have established ourselves as much needed pack leaders.  We have learned the proper way to use two different kinds of training collars.  Now we are able to walk both dogs at a busy ball field with other people and dogs around, without a leash.  If we are using the training collars inside, we are able to control some of the negative behaviors like barking and getting into things.  Chloe has stopped running from us and has not soiled and furniture from the first day of training. Both dogs stay very close to us at all times.  With Jerry's advice we were also able to try some new techniques to get Chloe through car rides without getting car sick.   We know we can call Jerry with any questions/issues that might arise.

I would have to say that I am very satisfied with the training and skills that Jerry has provided us with.  Of course, our dogs will never be show dogs, or perfect in the training area, but we got what we wanted out of the training and more.  I would definitely recommend Jerry to anyone who is in need of animal training!

Thanks Jerry for all of your help!!

Jerry came to our house to teach our dogs.  We have a Chow who is very
head-strong and we have an American Bulldog who was distracted easily.

Jerry truly worked wonders.  Within one class he had taught us little
"secrets" that helped us train the dogs.  We went to whatever level we
needed to go to.  No one made us start at sit, our dogs already knew that.

He helped our dog aggressive dog learn to control this behavior, which is
very important in society.  Our dogs are now a calm pack - and they know
that they're not the leaders.

Jerry taught us how we are supposed to behave with the dogs.  We have been
training with Jerry since late 2008 and still going to the Rudy Park
classes.  Socialization is important for dogs, too.

JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW ZOEY IS DOING GREAT. WE CAN ACTUALLY GO OUTSIDE WITH ONLY REMOTE COLLAR AND TAKE WALKS AND RUN AROUND THE YARD TO RELEASE ALOT OF ENERGY. WE COULD NOT HAVE DONE THIS WITHOUT YOUR HELP !! WE ARE STILL PRACTICING OUR OTHER COMMANDS TOO. ZOEY WILL NOW SIT AND STAY UNTIL I TELL HER TO COME. SHE STILL HAS HER MOMENTS WHEN SHE FORGETS HER MANNERS AND WANTS TO JUMP BUT THEN SHE IS TOLD TO SIT AND RESPONDS. I CAN NOT THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR THE GUIDANCE YOU GAVE BOTH US !! HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON AT RUDY PARK

Hi Jerry,

I wanted to drop you a quick e-mail to let you know how Betty and Elkie are doing.  We took Betty and Elkie to our family cabin along the river this evening.  Both dogs stayed right with us.  They did explore but as soon as we ask them to come closer they listened.  Both dogs also played in the river.  They both really enjoyed themselves.  I think they will have a great time this summer!

Everything has been going just as well at home.  The girls no long have accidents in the house.  In addition, both girls stay in the yard with us and listen great!  We are very greatful to you for providing us with the guidance it took to train both Scott and I.

I did not forget about writing you a testimonial.  I should have something finished by the end of the week.  Thanks again for all of your help Jerry!

Sincerely,

Pam, Scott, Zachary, Elkie, and Betty Runkle

Just wanted to update you Jerry - feel free to use this as a testimonial.   "I really wanted to get a puppy but was scared. We had a lab puppy a few years ago and couldn't control it. My daughter was afraid of her constant jumping and nibling, she went all over the house, and it turned into a nightmare. We had to give her away. This time we got two small terriers. I was really worried they'd turn our brand new home upside down, jump and bite the kids, and basically be uncontrollable. I am happy to report that with Jerry Mace's help the puppies are absolutely joy! As I am writing this upstairs, the puppies are sitting outside of the crate! I completely trust them not to chew things or go in the house. They are also almost completely trained to come, sit, stay, lay down, and go crate. They no longer bark while I put food into their bowls - instead, they quietly and patiently wait and watch me. When I say "ok", they start eating - truly amazing! Our friends and family can't believe what we've done! Also, with the tools Jerry gave us, my son now taught one of the puppies to fetch his ping-pong ball. His positive re-enforcement methods totally work and I am so fortunate Jerry was able to come and help us! I wish I would've known about him years ago before we had to give our lab away. Thank you Jerry!" - Milana , York PA

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Laya is doing fantastic.  She stays in our yard even when the neighbors and their dog are out.  She is doing extreamly well walking on the heel command.  However, I did try using another collar once and had to come right back to get the one we got from you.   We have been working with her, using the remote collar, on jumping up and nipping.   We are so impressed with her and thankful to you for helping us out!!   Thanks, Tiff

Hi, Jerry. I wanted to share some pictures of Hershey and Emmy in their new home, especially on their owner's bed. They're at the point where they're rolling on their backs when they go out for a walk on a leash or to accept belly rubs. They love to go in the crate even though the door is always open. Hershey gets spooked sometimes, but she's improved so much! This is such a great story. Thanks for rescuing them!   Silvia

Jerry I am finally taking  a minute out to e-mail you and say once again  "Thank-You". You came to my home on March 5th and picked up my son's dog (who has become my dog). Bixie is a almost 3 year old Jack Russell and Spitz mixed. He was very high strung, liked to bark a lot, but the worst thing was that he would bark and go after people he was afraid of. This included children. Behind closed doors Bixie is a fun loving dog. Whenever he felt threatend he would attack people. I had so many people tell me that I should have him put down or get rid of him. I have grown very attached to him and decided he never really had a fair chance from the beginning. So when my son moved out Bixie was my problem. I was told about your service and made the call. It was the best phone call I could have ever made. You took Bixie for a month and he came home with a new and better life. Bixie is not afraid any more and listens so well.!! I now have the family and friends come to our home and they cannot believe this is the same dog. I am so proud of him and all that he has accomplished. Thanks for making Bixie's life so much better and mine as well. I will highly recommend you to anyone that needs help with their dog. I hope that this letter will help other people that may be thinking there is no way to fix your dog's problem. I am a true believer that everyone deserves a second chance!!! Thank you so very much! And I look forward to doing future business with you!                                                                              Thanks,Mary (proud owner of Bixie"

Hi Jerry,

Just wanted to update you on Will.  It did take about a month or so before he got used to us but he is totally in love with both my husband and I!  Other than getting on the furniture when we are not home, (the sneaky little guy!) he is absolutely perfect!  I did however, have to make some concessions about the cleanliness of my home but he is very much worth it!

We love him very much and we are so grateful to you for bringing him into our lives!  He will get to try camping with us soon!

Thank you Jerry and if the family he came from ever wants to know how he is doing please reassure them he is very much loved!

Hi, Jerry. Just wanted to let you know that Emmy and Hershey have been vetted, Emmy spayed, and had a good bath. They look really good. They're in a foster home, and I hope they get adopted this Sunday when they go and charm everyone at the adoption day. Hershey has come out of her shell and charmed everyone during her stay at the kennel. I'll let you know when they get adopted. Thank you for rescuing them.   Silvia

Good Afternoon Jerry,
I wanted to tell you that Catalina passed her test yesterday.  She did very well and i was very pleased w/ her!  We also adopted a second dog last week.  He is a HUGE pitbull that weighs in at 100 lbs and we named him Sarge.  He also passed the test w/ Catalina yesterday so we are legal w/ my home owners insurance.  Thanks for all of your help!

Paul and Priscilla

A TRUE LIFESAVER

January 2008 we brought to our home a 10 week old black ball of fur.  Our ball of fur grew and as she did so became a fearful, timid, aggressive German Shepherd monster.  We had to keep her away from strangers, in  or out of our house.

Recognizing a serious situation, we turned to the Classified Ads and found what seemed to be an answer to our problem.  A home consultation with the trainer was arranged.  The puppy performed as she did around all strangers-aggressive, vicious barking, fur up and tail between her legs.  Upon seeing this we were told she was incorrigible, a danger to everyone including us and euthanasia was the only answer.  We were devastated, but not convinced that there was no other solution.

Back to the Classifided Ads.  This time we found "My Dog Needs Help".  That was definitely true!  Another home consultation, this time with Jerry Mace.  The puppy reacted just as she did to the first trainer.  However, Jerry said "She is not incorrigible.  I can and will work with her".  Our prayers were answered.

With infinite patience, skill, love and lots of hot dog bites,  Jerry won her trust and friendship.   After six sessions, she now walks by our side when leashed, stays until called and greets strangers with a friendly bark welcoming their pat on her head.  Thanks to Jerry Mace our monster is now a content, happy, lovable and loving one year old.

Carl & Bettina Malinak

Dear Mr. Mace,

Carl and I wish to express our sincere appreciation for the wonderful job you did training our Brittany puppy Molly. Being from a very high-spirited breed, Molly’s strong will was proving to be too much for us. Your techniques have allowed us to develop effective ways with which to address our issues with her and to maintain a loving relationship with her at the same time.

I think the aspect that impressed me most was the very logical and practical way you addressed her issues. You took the time to observe Molly and recognized her individual needs rather than using generic methods that may or may not have applied to her. As a result, her training needs were met in a relatively short time and continue to be effective while we maintain consistency with her.

You communicated extremely well with us, as well as with Molly. Your explanations of the philosophies supporting you training methods helped us to better understand Molly’s issues and how the training technique would address these needs.

We appreciate your professionalism and would gladly recommend you to other dog owners in need of guidance.

Sincerely,

Carl & Bettina Malinak

We are in another training class and Koda was so out of control nobody would stand near us.The only positive side to us being there was we were the distraction. We were creating that and that aided the other handlers while working with their dogs to ignore the distractions. At the end of the session Koda and I both were exhausted. Then I called Jerry now we get complements on how well behaved he is.Now that we have our basic training everything else that needs to be done is a piece of cake.He is more responsive to new commands and continues to make progress.
Thank you Jerry

Our 2 Miniature Schnauzer puppies
Barking when not wearing anti bark collars, jumping up on people all of the time, not house broken, chewing on everything in sight ,very destructive on furniture, chewing cushions, plants, tables, chairs, wild behavior, unable to walk on a leash, run away from me and not come when called,
2)Were we able to fix these problems?
Yes
3)Would you recommend us to a friend?
Yes
4)Please write a brief testimony as to the positive effects of our training on you and your pet.
Charlie listens to commands and obeys now. Heels on command. Comes when called. He doesn't climb on the furniture anymore. He no longer chases moving objects. All of his incessant barking has disappeared. He no longer wrestles with the puppies. Overall, he is a well behaved pet.
Problems with puppies resolved.
Puppies returned one month later. They are a lot different - no longer a wild bunch, no jumping up, and they no longer chew everything in site. They no longer run away and they come when called. Overall, they are well behaved and well trained puppies.
We could not be more appreciative of Jerry's efforts and talents. Jerry has provided us with weekly return visits to work with the puppies and Charlie.
We are so appreciative of the magic he performed on our dogs. We are not sure if we can ever thank him enough!
Thank You
Joan and Evelyn (and the "whole crew")

In the adults with titles class this year the judge was presented with an impressive selection of top quality dogs. VA-1 1997 USA Sieger was awarded to Lasso vom Neuen Berg SchH3. 6 year old Lasso is co-owned by Kurt Maier of Germany and US Schutzhunder Steve Miller of Sun Prairie WI. Other participants that I interviewed subsequent to the show said he is a spectacular dog and was an excellent choice for the Sieger title. Steve's wife Connie tells me that the dog will continue to live in Germany until after the Welt Sieger and then he will come to the USA to live with Steve. Connie Miller told me that Lasso is bred to Larissa V. Bad Boll SchH3 with pups due in late March. VA-2 was awarded to Larry V. Grapenhof SchH3, a young dog from Mechanicsburg, Pa. and owned by Jerry Mace and Martha Melville.
